How it works

Dermaroller works by creating tiny punctures into the skin to stimulate skin repair and cell regeneration. In laments terms, the skin and collagen feels it needs repairing and therefore heals itself, creating new collagen, to be even better than before. Unlike other methods, Dermarolling does not remove any layers of skin and therefore there is hardly any downtime and it heals very quickly.

A Dermaroller is a small, cylinder drum covered in micro-needles which can be rolled over the skin. The micro-needles are 0.1mm in width and between 0.25mm and 3mm in length. The one required depends on which areas are being treated and whether you are treating yourself at home or being treated by a trained therapist.

The top layer of your skin is known as the epidermis. It is between 0.5 and 2mm thick depending upon where it’s located. Underneath the epidermis is the dermis, which is between 0 .5mm thick (underneath your eyelids) and 2mm (on your back) thick.

Dermis is the layer that you need to reach if you want to stimulate collagen production. With a 0.5mm dermaroller you’ll be able to reach the dermis and stimulate cell renewal. This will improve your skin’s overall texture and tone. If you’re using a derma roller that’s shorter than 0.5mm you’ll enable your skin care products to penetrate your skin better, while also improving really shallow pigmentation and thickening your epidermis.

It is possible to penetrate your skin really deeply with a dermaroller, to up to 3mm. Other methods which can pierce as deeply, such as acid peels and lasers, can cause scarring as it removes layers of the skin, whereas the micro-needling will only penetrate your skin without damaging the surrounding areas. The micro-needling marks will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.

After the procedure your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.

How Dermaroller can help you

Effective in stimulating collagen production
As we age, our skin becomes loose and it can lose its suppleness and elasticity, Dermaroller will negate this by stimulating the production of new collagen creating a thicker and healthier appearance.

Reduces deep wrinkles and fine lines on the face and décolletage area
The Dermaroller can be used to treat creases in the skin of the forehead (scowl lines), deep wrinkles, fine wrinkles, skin creases and lines, wrinkles around the mouth, on the neck and jaw line, the décolletage (chest), on the backs of the hands and more.

Can reduce stretch marks
The Dermaroller can be used to remove stretch marks such as those developed during pregnancy, adolescent growth spurts, rapid muscle growth, rapid muscle growth spurts and weight loss/gain. It removes stretch marks by stimulating the production of new collagen fibres and elastin in the skin. Producing more collagen and elastin in the skin fills in stretch marks as the skin thickens, tightens and elasticity is restored.Depending on the severity of the skin condition, the results differ with each client and a course of Dermarollers would be required.

Breaks down Pigmentation in the skin
Hyperpigmentation is caused by excessive production of pigment by Melancytes (pigment cells). It can be triggered by sun exposure, pregnancy, etc. Dermarolling helps improve the quality of the skin to address pigmentation and normalize the pigment cells and the control the abnormal formation of pigment.

Tightens pores which become larger as we age
As we age, some pores can become larger Micro-needling is an excellent option for pores on the nose. It will stimulate the build-up of collagen which can smooth scars and fine lines over time. It may take several treatments until results can be seen.

Acne scarring and Chicken Pox scars
Acne scarring, or scarring by chicken pox, can have a negative impact on self- esteem. Dermarolling is clinically proven to be effective in the reduction of scarring. Shallow scarring can usually be removed entirely, and deeper scars can be reduced considerably, making them hardly noticeable.

Stimulate hair growth
During our life, we may suffer with hair loss due to various reasons. Dermarolling can help stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles and activating the skin’s natural regeneration process.

For best results, a Course of Dermarolling is recommended, along with resurfacers in between treatments.
